Today, we designated ChatGPT as a Very Large Online Search Engine and Reddit and Roblox as Very Large Online Platforms under the DSA.
These services indicated that they reach at least 45 million average monthly users in the EU and thus meet the threshold for designation.
ChatGPT, Reddit and Roblox, will now be held to a higher standard of scrutiny and accountability in the EU, in line with their large impact on our citizens and society.

@82mhz I still have that! Maybe just a little different, if I'm not wrong (it's at my parents' house and can't see it at the moment) but mostly the same.
@stefano
You got a similar one? That's cool! It's a really neat looking one I think :)
I'm as disappointed at #Debian as anyone but I'm not full of gloom and doom because liking and supporting a project doesn't mean it won't go over to the dark side.
I do think this is black and white. There is no responsible use of #LLM tech no matter how useful it is for you personally. It isn't going AGI and it's not solving problems faster or better when you consider the money it is burning.
Our priority is to prepare for inevitable crises (ie financial, climate, social). That's positive.
Before semiconductor RAM, most computers used magnetic core memory. This is the 128 KB core stack from the computer on Spacelab, the Space Shuttle's experimental laboratory. Let's take a closer look...
So tell me. Do you think #curl should support plain SSH:// URLs to execute commands remotely?
@bagder nope!
Here’s a crazy idea --> instead of asking working people to donate to disaster relief funds out of empathy, why don’t we make the corporations & industries that have contributed disproportionately to the climate crisis bear a far greater share of the cost of the damage?
Maybe accountability before charity?
Perhaps if they were made to pay for the environmental damage they contribute to(not simply write a CSR cheque) they will work towards preventing & solving the problems they helped create.
@jt_rebelo I take your point but I kinda hope not. I don't think people who may have been tricked should be punished for it.
@ruari it's not punishment, it's using the money to help those that want to be helped.
The EU budget is constrained, the coming French presidential elections might make it even worse, we have an hybrid war being waged by russia against the whole EU, money has to be used where it is really needed, to bring the convergence of European values and the European People to those that want to belong to it.
You either want to be in the EU, or not, as the Icelandic Prime-Minister putt it, it was "now or never". They voted "no", Democracy has spoken.
In 2009, after the global market crash, they wanted EU's help (and got it), when things stabilised in 2013 they elected an "Euro-sceptic" government that stopped the accession process, that's what they wanted, and now they voted "no" on the referendum. They said at least two times that they do not want to be in the EU. There's no problem with that, but furrher talks should stop where they are for some time (at least until after the next EU expansion), Iceland can keep Single Market and Schengen free-travel zone access, but the EU should take care (monetarily and whatever else) of candidates that do want to be member-states, not "candidates of circunstance" (like the UK is after Brexit, already missing a big part of the convergence criteria).

@jenniferplusplus and obviously "but... Medicine!!!"
We have a path, and it’s not new, it’s simple, it’s human, and it’s working. Ignore the #AI (collective intelligence) mess, build the #OMN – this is a path https://hamishcampbell.com/ignore-the-ai-mess-build-the-omn-there-is-a-path/
Starting next week ERPU co-founder and board member @jon is going for a new world record: the fastest time on the longest uninterrupted rail journey in Europe! 6281.6km of train travel from Kemijärvi, Finland to Lagos, Portugal.
You can find all of the details on his website: https://crossborderrail.eu/longestjourney/ — and of course we will be following and cheering him on here as well.
Good luck Jon!
Record attempt: Longest train journey in the EU
Google has now renamed Lake Ontario for US users. They don’t even show the real name in brackets.
I used a VPN to compare: Apple hasn’t renamed it (at least not yet), nor has Dutch service Here WeGo or OpenStreetMap.
Yet another reason to ditch Google, and US tech more broadly.
#tech #lakeontario #canada #cdnpoli #tariffs #digitalsovereignty
May I suggest naming all U.S. lakes "Lake of America"? And all airports "Donald Trump Airport"? Let's make it simple.
@david_chisnall @anantagd @futurebird
That's an interesting concept. I wonder if there's international standard tones for cardinal directions? If not, there probably should be.
@lxskllr @anantagd @futurebird
It wouldn’t work in most cities because they aren’t arranged on a grid, but a lot of US (and some of the newer bits of south-east Asian) cities are. Somewhere like London or Paris, it wouldn’t help at all.
